Photofacial / BBL

Damage caused by sun exposure, diseases and other conditions can lead to the appearance of redness, inflammation, pigmentation irregularities or other symptoms of the skin. Although not usually of medical concern, these symptoms can affect a person’s self-confidence because of their cosmetic effects. BBL is an innovative technology that sets new standards for the treatment of these conditions.

The light energy delivered by the BBL gently heats the upper layers of your skin. The heat absorbed by the targeted areas stimulates your skin cells to regenerate new collagen. This process helps to restore your skin to its natural beauty, by making it smoother, brighter, and younger looking. In addition, the photothermal energy helps to eliminate fine vessels that cause redness and reduce unwanted melanin that contribute to pigmented lesions.

Any area of the body can be treated. The most common areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sunlight, including the face, neck, chest, back of the hands, and shoulders.

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, and Dr. Dang can customize a treatment plan based on the level of improvement you would like to achieve.

Prior to the treatment your eyes are protected with safety shields. During treatment, you may experience a sensation similar to a rubber band being snapped on the skin, although most patients report this treatment as being tolerable. A topical anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment in order to minimize potential discomfort.

After treatment with the BBL patients should expect to be red, as though they had experienced a bad sunburn, and mild swelling is not uncommon. The initial redness generally fades after the first day. If you have treatment for pigmented lesions, you will notice that all of the treated areas will get darker initially, then start to fade and flake off. It is important for patients to protect their skin from sun exposure for the first few months after treatment to promote proper healing and long-term results.

Conditions that can be treated with BBL include:

  • Pigmented Lesions (e.g. freckles, age spots)
  • Vascular Lesions (e.g. small blood vessels)
  • Acne
  • Skin Firmness
  • Uneven Skin Texture
